Starting Your College Research

Happy new year! Are you rested? Great! Let’s move on and talk about college. There are multiple types of institutions of higher learning. There are public colleges and universities that are supported by their home state and there are private colleges and universities that were started by organizations, religious groups or individuals. There are colleges that religious-based, technology-based, focused on the arts or are general liberal arts. After the abolition of slavery, over a hundred colleges were opened to specifically educate individuals of African descent. There are over 100 of these still thriving and educating individuals of all backgrounds today.
What too many people forget is that college is a part of the continuum for educational credibility. Although not everyone requires a college education to be successful, almost all individuals who are successful have one. There are also drastic income differences between those who have college educations and those who don’t.
There are over 5,000 colleges in the US which means there is a good fit for everyone. Start researching schools and talk to your parents or counselor about the various options available to you. Take a look at the TeeNUMe college tab to start a comprehensive search of the various colleges and universities out there.

The Gift Of Service

The month of November is a pivotal month every school year. It signals the approaching end of the first semester and the coming holiday season. November also signals the season of giving. What and how will you give this season? Although you can purchase something to give, perhaps one of the most meaningful and lasting ways to benefit others is to give of your time.
Organizing and/or participating in a food drive at your school or church or volunteering at a nursing home or hospital is a wonderful way to use the weekends leading up to the holidays. Check and ask the leadership at your school. They will be thrilled to know that you are willing to serve and they often have access to resources.
In the meantime, keep working hard and studying in school. Be the best for you! Go and get the future of your dreams!

Time to Register For the PSAT

The PSAT is given this month and next month. If you didn’t take it last year, this is a great way to get an idea of what will be on the SAT test that you will take later this year. Why are these test important? They are required by almost every college and university in the United States for admission. The tests assess your basic skills in math and English using a multiple-choice standardized format.
Since the PSAT results do not go to colleges, it is a no-risk way to assess where you are and what you need to do over the next 5 to 6 months to get ready for the bigger test. Check with your school counselor about registration.
Be the best for you! Go and get the life of your dreams!
